Summary
Film editing transforms recorded images and sounds into a finished motion picture. It is both a technical process and a creative art: the editor selects and arranges material to shape story, pace, and emotion.
Film editing is the art, technique, and practice of assembling shots into a coherent sequence. Although the term arose when filmmakers physically worked with film stock, editing today is primarily digital.
