Summary

Cross-cultural assignments require managers to work effectively with people whose cultural values, expectations, and communication practices may differ from their own. This lesson introduces cultural intelligence, a set of capabilities that helps people function in culturally diverse settings.

Cultural intelligence (CQ) is an individual’s capability to function and manage effectively in culturally diverse settings. It is more than knowing facts about another country. A culturally intelligent manager can draw on knowledge, reflect on what is happening, remain motivated to learn, and adjust behavior appropriately.
