Summary
After a eukaryotic gene is transcribed, its initial RNA transcript usually needs processing before it can be translated. This lesson focuses on RNA splicing and how alternative splicing allows one gene to produce different protein products.
A newly transcribed RNA molecule is not necessarily ready for translation. In many eukaryotic genes, the initial transcript contains both protein-coding regions and intervening regions that must be removed.
