Summary
A normal subgroup is a subgroup whose elements remain inside it when they are conjugated by any element of the larger group. This idea is central to understanding quotient groups and group homomorphisms.
For elements and in a group , the conjugate of by is . It can be viewed as transforming by the symmetry represented by , then transforming back by its inverse.
