Summary
This lesson introduces the knee structures that support stability, explains the ACL’s role, and describes how ACL injuries occur.
The knee joint is formed by the femur (thighbone), tibia (shinbone), and patella (kneecap). Ligaments are strong bands of connective tissue that help hold bones together and stabilize the joint.
The medial and lateral menisci are C-shaped cartilage structures resting on the tibia. They cushion the bones and may be injured along with the ACL.
