Summary

Memory is an information-processing system that allows us to take in, retain, and use information. This lesson introduces the three basic memory processes and explains how information first enters the system.

Memory is the set of processes used to encode, store, and retrieve information over time. A computer offers a useful, though imperfect, analogy: information is entered, saved, and later accessed. Human memory is more complex and does not work exactly like a computer.
