Summary

User interface design, sometimes called user interface engineering, is the design of the points where people interact with devices, machines, and software. These interfaces include computer applications, home appliances, mobile devices, cars, and other electronic systems.

In software design, UI work often focuses on information architecture: organizing and presenting information so that users can understand what matters and what actions are available. The goal is to make interaction as simple and efficient as possible while helping users accomplish their goals. This user-centered goal means that design decisions should be guided by the needs and perspectives of the people who will use the system.
