Summary

Community health programs are stronger when the people affected by a health issue help shape the response. This lesson introduces participatory planning and explains how partnerships differ from coalitions.

Community engagement is the process of working collaboratively with people and groups to identify community health needs and strategies to address them. It is not simply informing residents about a plan after decisions have been made. Instead, community members participate in decisions throughout program development, implementation, and evaluation.
