Summary

Communication helps nurses promote health programs and healthy behaviors, raise awareness, recruit and retain participants, coordinate with community partners, and share evaluation findings. This lesson compares common communication tools and explains why teams often use several methods together.

A communication plan may use broadcast media, print media, social and digital media, outdoor media and public displays, and word of mouth. Each offers different ways to deliver a message. Choosing a tool is not simply a matter of popularity: the team should consider who can access it, whether they trust it, and whether it suits the message.
