Summary

Community health assessment (CHA) teams analyze collected data to understand the health of a population. They organize information, check whether it is complete, and compare local findings with earlier assessments and relevant benchmarks. These steps help reveal which health concerns are occurring, who is affected, and where or when concerns are most prevalent.

All flashcards

Population at risk
A group especially affected by, or more likely to experience, a particular health outcome.
Synthesis
Bringing assessment findings together to understand health concerns, their context, and evidence gaps.
Data gap
Missing or insufficient information that may limit an assessment's completeness or representativeness.
Benchmark
A comparison point that helps put findings in context but does not explain differences by itself.
Community capacity for change
A community's ability to take action and use available resources to address a need.

Quiz questions

  1. A community survey has few responses from an at-risk group. What is an appropriate way to address this gap?Answer: Gather additional information, such as through a focus group with members of that group.
  2. What can a benchmark contribute when a community health team compares local findings with other data?Answer: A reference point for interpreting findings, without establishing why differences exist.
  3. Which set of questions helps a team describe the distribution of a health concern?Answer: What is occurring, who is affected, where it occurs, and when it occurs.
  4. How does synthesis differ from simply describing assessment statistics?Answer: It connects findings to their context and considers how influencing factors may relate to concerns.
  5. Which elements should a community problem statement include?Answer: The group most affected, the identified need, relevant assets, and capacity for change.
