Summary

Vitamins are small-quantity nutrients that support many essential body processes. This lesson introduces how vitamins are classified and examines the roles and safety considerations of vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Vitamins are nutrients the body needs in small amounts to function and stay healthy. They come from foods and, when needed, supplements. Their general roles include supporting immunity, healthy bones and teeth, skin, blood, metabolism, and brain and nervous system function. Vitamins have distinct functions; one vitamin cannot necessarily replace another.
